Sharon Township Learns About Key Medina County Initiatives

At the latest meeting on July 22, the Sharon Township Board of Trustees was informed about critical programs aimed at enhancing community welfare in Medina County. Featured speakers included Barbara Walton, Director of the Medina County Solid Waste District, and Denise Testa, Director of Planning Services and Fair Housing.

Essential Recycling and Waste Management Services

Walton highlighted the importance of the solid waste campus located at 8700 Lake Road in Seville. Open Monday through Friday, and Saturday mornings, the facility offers essential services, including residential garbage collection and single-stream recycling. Additionally, it caters to hazardous household waste disposal—vital for maintaining public health and safety. Specialty items like appliances, tires, and televisions can also be dropped off, ensuring environmentally responsible waste management in the region.

Community Development Block Grant: A Lifeline for Residents

Denise Testa stressed the significance of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), promising $500,000 every two years to support low- and moderate-income residents. With projects targeting accessibility for disabled and elderly residents, along with strategies to mitigate slum and blight conditions, the CDBG endeavors to uplift the community. Testa specifically encouraged local trustees in Sharon to harness these funds for projects tailored to benefit their constituents.

Updates from the Fire Department and Township Finances

In other developments, Assistant Fire Chief Mike George offered updates on the Sharon Township Fire Department, detailing that, as of July 20, the department responded to 38 calls, primarily for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Meanwhile, Fiscal Officer Christine Lawson reported a financial windfall of $16,733 from the Ohio Township Association Risk Management Authority due to recent damages to Town Hall. Trustees also approved funds for vital repairs and uniforms, ensuring the health and safety of township operations.

Upcoming Meeting and Community Engagement

Residents of Sharon Township are encouraged to engage in these essential community programs. The next Trustees meeting is scheduled for Aug. 12 at 7 p.m., where community members can learn more and participate in discussions that influence local governance.
