During the Sharon Township Board of Trustees meeting on August 12, Fire Chief Mike Stanec reported that the Fire Department responded to a notable 66 calls in July. This included two fire-related incidents, 47 emergency medical service (EMS) calls, and 17 classified as ‘other’. The department collaborated with neighboring agencies, providing mutual aid four times while receiving assistance on two occasions. Notably, 14 of these calls originated from the StoryPoint senior living community, highlighting the increased reliance on emergency services in that area.
Call Statistics for August So Far
As for August, Chief Stanec revealed that the fire department has already responded to 31 calls, with the breakdown showing two fire incidents, 23 EMS requests, and six categorized as other. The department’s close cooperation with other fire services continues, as it has provided mutual aid seven times and received it four times during this ongoing month. StoryPoint reported nine calls this month, one of which was a false alarm, emphasizing the need for clear communication in emergencies.
Community Engagement and Upcoming Events
Assistant Chief Mike George noted that the Sharon Community Trust will hold its annual grant distribution on September 15 at the Fire Department, enhancing community engagement in local safety initiatives. Furthermore, Fiscal Officer Christine Lawson provided updates on future infrastructure with planned improvements, such as a roundabout aimed to enhance safety at the Route 94 and Fixler Road intersection expected in 2028.
Trustees' Decisions and Community Concerns
During the meeting, various administrative tasks were tackled, including a payment of $6,054 for equipment servicing and updates reflecting the contributions of former trustee Brian Guccion to local projects. Additionally, residents were reminded of a deadline on September 15 for submissions to honor veterans on a new plaque, while individual concerns such as property damage requests were also addressed.
