Celebrating the Life of James "Jim" McCartney
With heavy hearts, we gather to honor the life of James "Jim" Edward McCartney, who passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on April 28, 1944, Jim was more than just a name; he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence filled the lives of many with joy and laughter. His spirited approach to life will continue to resonate in our memories and hearts.
A Lifelong Learner and Educator
Jim was a proud member of Cardinal Mooney High School’s class of 1962 and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1966. He pursued further education, earning a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Westminster College. This commitment to learning was reflected in his 39-year career in education that saw him transition from a 4th-grade teacher to the esteemed principal at various elementary schools, including Dixon Elementary and DeWitt Elementary, where he positively impacted countless young lives.
Family: At the Heart of It All
For Jim, family was the cornerstone of his existence. His son Sean and grandchildren Jonah and Julia were his pride and joy. Jim never missed a chance to support Sean in his basketball endeavors and was a devoted follower of Jonah’s athletic career—from youth games to college competitions. His mantra in life, encapsulated in his encouragement to “Take the Shot!” resonated far beyond the basketball court—it symbolized his belief in living fully and embracing opportunities.
Passions Beyond Work
Beyond education, Jim enjoyed an active lifestyle through golf, which was not just a hobby but a way to connect with friends and enjoy the outdoors. His camaraderie with fellow golfers in Cuyahoga Falls was a staple of his life, bringing him joy and laughter. Besides golfing, Jim explored other outdoor activities like hunting and fly-fishing, which highlighted his appreciation for nature.
Travel: Embracing New Experiences
In retirement, Jim and his beloved wife Mary Ellen “Mindy” sought to experience the world together. Their travels allowed them to embrace new cultures, forge lasting memories, and create connections with people from different backgrounds. This adventurous spirit not only enriched their lives but also exemplified Jim’s zest for life.
Legacy of Love
As we mourn the loss of Jim, we take solace in the legacy he leaves behind—a testament to the importance of family, education, and unwavering love. His life was an embodiment of kindness, wisdom, and joy. Though he may no longer be with us, his influence will live on, inspiring us to cherish our moments and pursue our passions, just as he did.
