A Culinary Connection to History and Hollywood
Bistr09 is more than just a restaurant; it’s a bridge connecting French culinary history to Hollywood glamor. Owned by acclaimed chef Damien Watel and his wife Lisa, the restaurant offers dishes that not only tantalize the taste buds but also tell stories. Watel's heritage can be traced back to Francois Vatel, a famous maître d’hôtel whose life ended tragically during a banquet for King Louis XIV. This historical backdrop enriches the dining experience, making every dish served a reflection of a bygone era.
Supporting the Local Community through Food
From now until June 21, patrons of Bistr09 have a unique opportunity to help their community while enjoying a delicious meal. Each purchase of the special watermelon, tomato, and feta salad contributes directly to the San Antonio Food Bank’s Summer Meals for Kids Program, which aims to support over 200,000 local children who lack access to free school meals during summer. For every dollar raised through these menu items, the food bank is able to distribute seven meals to children and families in need.
Artistry Combined With Culinary Expertise
The Watels' creativity doesn’t stop in the kitchen. Damien is also an artist, with many of the paintings displayed in the restaurant painted by him. This personal touch enhances the dining atmosphere, giving guests a glimpse into Watel’s creative spirit. His wife, Lisa, formerly a private chef for actor Tommy Lee Jones, bridges the culinary world with fashion and design, embodying the artistic flair that Bistr09 embraces.
A Call to Action for the Community
