Alamo Heights Residents Show Solidarity with Green Ribbons in Missing Girl Case

Green ribbon on a tree in Alamo Heights park symbolizing flood victim support.

A Community Comes Together for a Missing Child

In Alamo Heights, the ethos of community shines brightly as residents band together in support of families affected by the devastating floods in South Texas. This collective spirit is exemplified by the heartfelt gesture of tying green ribbons around trees and streetlights, symbolizing hope for the safe return of missing campers, including Kellyanne Lytal, a young girl who vanishes during the chaos of flooding.

Symbolism in Green: More Than Just a Ribbon

The color green, chosen for these ribbons, represents not just the official colors of Camp Mystic—where Kellyanne and others were last reported missing—but also conveys messages of safety, renewal, and harmony. This powerful symbolism serves to uplift community spirits during a harrowing time.

Local Support Initiatives: Neighbors Helping Neighbors

The outpouring of support extends beyond ribbons. Local businesses and the San Antonio Zoo have participated in honoring the lost through green displays, fostering a sense of solidarity. Parents and teachers have organized counseling resources for children affected by the trauma of the floods.

The Emotional Impact on the Community

Marianne DiSabato, a retired teacher and long-time resident, expressed the collective grief felt across Alamo Heights. With the community’s deep roots, the missing child resonates as a shared heartache. This tragedy has led to an upsurge in community engagement, highlighting the importance of emotional support in times of crisis.

A Call for Continued Vigilance and Support

While the ribbons symbolize hope, they also serve as a reminder of the ongoing search for survivors. Community involvement is crucial, and residents are encouraged to continue supporting search efforts and counseling services for those traumatized by recent events.

In these times of uncertainty, showing we care—whether through a green ribbon or community action—reminds us that we are never alone. Let us continue to support each other and keep the hope alive for those still missing.

Every year, approximately 350,000 individuals suffer cardiac arrest outside hospitals, and tragically, nine out of ten do not survive. Immediate intervention through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can significantly increase survival rates, yet many bystanders hesitate to act. The Greater Akron Heart Walk aims not only to raise funds but also to empower individuals with the skills necessary to save lives.A Community United for a Lifesaving GoalThis year, during the 2025 Greater Akron Heart Walk, three local executives exemplified leadership and commitment, raising substantial funds for the American Heart Association's Nation of Lifesavers initiative. Their efforts contributed to a total of nearly $300,000 raised at the event, each dollar representing a chance to train more individuals in lifesaving techniques.Building a Culture of PreparednessBeyond individual contributions, the event brought together over 60 local companies, unified under the mission to double the survival rate of cardiac arrest victims by 2030.
